Lodi's Water Infrastructure: Evolution in Bergen County
Lodi, a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, has a water supply history that reflects its development from a small settlement in the 18th century to an established suburban community. Located along the Saddle River, Lodi’s relationship with water resources has been an important factor in its growth and infrastructure development.
Today, Lodi’s municipal water service is provided by SUEZ Water New Jersey, which manages the borough’s drinking water infrastructure. The system draws primarily from surface water sources in the Hackensack River watershed, with the water treated to meet federal and state quality standards before distribution to Lodi’s approximately 24,000 residents.
Lodi’s location in the Saddle River watershed has presented both opportunities and challenges for water management. The borough has worked with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to address flooding concerns, particularly in areas near the Saddle River. Additionally, the Borough of Lodi has invested in modernizing its stormwater management systems over the years, replacing aging infrastructure and implementing improvements to enhance water quality and reduce flood risks. These ongoing efforts demonstrate Lodi’s commitment to sustainable water resource management while addressing the unique challenges posed by its geographical location.
