Boil Water Order Lifted in Nassau County Following Water Main Break
The boil water order issued for parts of Nassau County on Long Island has been lifted, two days after a water main break on Winona Road in Baldwin caused significant disruption. Liberty New York Water announced that customers in Baldwin, Island Park, Oceanside, Roosevelt, and South Hempstead can now safely use their tap water without boiling it.
The break, which occurred on Friday afternoon, left approximately 30,000 customers without water for over an hour. The water main was repaired by Saturday morning, and subsequent bacteria tests confirmed that the water was safe, showing no signs of contamination at any time.

As a precaution, Liberty New York Water advises customers to run their faucets for 3 to 5 minutes before using the water for drinking or cooking. For health care facilities, multi-story commercial buildings, and apartments, it’s recommended to run faucets for 10 to 15 minutes.
During the boil water order, residents were instructed to boil their water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, or other household needs. With the order now lifted, normal water usage can resume.
