Boil Water Order Issued in Nassau County Following Water Main Break
Reading Time: 2 minutes
A boil water order has been issued for thousands of Liberty New York Water customers in parts of Nassau County after a water main break occurred on Winona Road in Baldwin. The break, which took place around 3 p.m., caused a significant loss of water pressure, affecting approximately 30,000 customers across several communities, including Baldwin, Island Park, Oceanside, Roosevelt, and South Hempstead.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, washing dishes, brushing teeth, or providing water to pets. This precaution is necessary to ensure that the water is free of harmful bacteria. The boil water order is expected to remain in effect for a few days until testing confirms that the water is safe to use.
The break on Winona Road raised concerns about potential flooding, with some residents reporting significant water flow in the area. Baldwin resident Sharon Fox described the scene, stating, "The water was running so deep, that when I went across to get the car, it almost knocked me down."

The water main break also affected Mount Sinai’s South Nassau hospital, where water pressure was temporarily impacted at the main campus and some ambulatory locations. However, hospital officials confirmed that all patients remained safe and that there was no impact on patient care during the incident.
Liberty New York Water has resolved the break but advises customers to continue boiling their water until further notice. For more information, customers can contact the water company’s hotline at 877-426-699.
