Notable Exhibitions and Collections
The NMAI has an extensive collection of over 800,000 objects, including artifacts, photographs, and manuscripts that represent the diversity of the Native American cultures and histories. The museum’s collection is divided into three main areas: the Hemispheric Collections, which include artifacts from North, Central, and South America; the Arctic Collections, which include artifacts from Alaska and Canada; and the Contemporary Arts Collections, which include works by Native American artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The museum’s exhibitions are designed to be interactive and engaging, and they explore a wide range of themes, such as the history of Native American peoples, their cultures, and their contemporary issues.
